Important Attendance Law Changes for the 2026-2027 School Year

Posted Date: 07/01/26 (09:00 AM)

Dear H Nation Families,

We want to make you aware of important changes to Mississippi's school attendance law that will take effect on July 1, 2026, for the 2026-2027 school year. The new law was passed during the most recent legislative session to help reduce chronic absenteeism and strengthen student attendance. As a result, several attendance requirements have changed, including excused absences, medical documentation, attendance requirements, and activity participation.

Please review the attached graphic for an overview of the key changes. Updated attendance information will also be included in the 2026-2027 Student Handbooks, which will be available before the start of the school year.

Thank you for taking a few moments to review these important updates. We appreciate your partnership in supporting regular school attendance and student success.
